Bending Rubber Specifications: How to Avoid the Wrong Size

Bending rubber sleeves are small parts, but choosing them from a photo alone is risky. Similar-looking sleeves can differ in diameter, length, wall, material, or the scope models they are made to fit.

A correct request only needs three groups of information. Check the model, the dimensions, and the approved material or sample reference.

1. Start with the complete scope model

Give the brand and full model number. Do not shorten the model or assume every scope in the same family uses the same bending rubber.

Also state where the sleeve is used and whether you need a standard replacement or a version previously supplied to your company. If you have an old purchase order or supplier item code, include it.

Photos help when there are several versions. Take one photo of the full sleeve and close photos of both ends. If the removed part is torn or stretched, mention that condition.

Best starting point: complete model + clear end photos + supplier item code from the last approved order.

2. Confirm the dimensions instead of choosing by color

Color and surface appearance are not enough to identify a bending rubber. Confirm the relaxed length, inner diameter, outer diameter, and any different diameter at the ends. State the units and measurement method.

A used sleeve can change shape after removal. Compare measurements with a drawing, an unused sample, or a known approved specification whenever possible. If your measurement is only approximate, say so.

  • Relaxed overall length
  • Inner and outer diameter
  • End dimensions or steps
  • Photos beside a scale

The supplier should use these details together with the scope model. One dimension by itself is not a complete compatibility check.

3. Use an approved material or sample reference

Buyers may request different materials or surface characteristics for their repair process. If you know the required material, include it. If you do not, send the original or approved part information and ask what options are available for that model.

For a new source, test a sample before placing a larger order. Record the sample code, dimensions, photos, and your team’s fit assessment. Use that reference on repeat orders.
